There’s something about the south-west coast of Victoria that just feels right. The salty breeze, rolling green hills, and sense of slow—all working together to remind you to take a breath, take your time, and take it all in.
Now, there’s a brand new way to experience the best of the region: The South West Tipple Trail.
What is the Tipple Trail?
The South West Tipple Trail is a self-guided tasting adventure that connects some of the region’s most passionate makers—wineries, distilleries, breweries, and bottle shops—each offering something unique, crafted, and full of local character.
Winding its way through Port Fairy, Koroit, Warrnambool, Timboon, Mepunga, and beyond, the trail invites you to sip, savour and explore at your own pace. It’s less about ticking boxes and more about embracing the journey—slow afternoons, great conversations, and the kind of flavours you’ll want to take home with you.
Who’s on the Trail?
Here’s a taste of what you’ll find along the way:
Basalt Wines – That’s us! Offering cool-climate wines, paddock-to-plate food and sweeping vineyard views just ten minutes from Port Fairy.
Timboon Railway Shed Distillery – A whisky icon housed in a historic railway goods shed, known for its small-batch spirits and warm hospitality.
Noodledoof Distillery & Brewery – Located in Koroit, this lively spot blends bold spirits, craft beer and creative flair.
Babche Wines – Minimal intervention wines crafted with care and a strong connection to land and place.
Mepunga Wines – Boutique and family-owned, this winery celebrates the quiet charm of the Mepunga region.
Neart Tide Distillery – A small-batch distillery with big flavour, focused on handcrafted gins made with regional botanicals.
Carsterton Distilling Co. – New to the scene and already gaining attention for their clean, premium spirits made with precision.
Suffoir Winery, Brewery & Distillery – An all-in-one experience in Macarthur, offering wine, beer and spirits under one roof.
The Sisters Distillery – Known for beautifully bottled gins with a creative twist and coastal spirit.
Dixie Distillery – An exciting new name bringing energy and innovation to the local distilling scene.
Each of these stops is a reflection of the people behind the pour—makers who love what they do, and do it well.
